SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to our special Ash Wednesday service that will be at Concordia Church on Whipple. Starting at 5:30 P.M. we will have a children’s craft designed to engage your child with the season of Lent and help them grow in their faith.  In addition\, Children’s Church will be provided during the service for children ages 0-10. The service\, which starts at 6:15 pm\, includes special music and the imposition of ashes.  This service creates an opportunity for our two sites to join with the larger Concordia community and reflect on our collective journey of faith as we enter the season of Lent.  In particular\, Ash Wednesday begins the 40-day journey of Lent.  We are invited to take up the disciplines of prayer\, fasting\, almsgiving and Bible study\, just as our Lord fasted and prayed for 40 days in the desert.  This renewal of faith leads to Holy Week and the celebration of Easter on April 1st.

SUMMARY:"Do-It-Yourself" Instant Christmas Performance
DESCRIPTION:This is a wonderful way for children to share in the experience of celebrating our Lord’s birth and engages them by acting out the parts of angels\, shepherds\, and wise men.  Children will be given simple costumes\, short lines\, and movements to memorize.  For parents of little ones (ages 0-3) we invite you to dress up as an angel with your child and sit in our reserved ‘angel choir’ section.  No special skills required! \nWe invite you to attend the practice sessions\, happening at Concordia Church on Seeley\, during Sunday School on December 3rd or 10th.  A final practice will be held in the Concordia Church on Seeley Sanctuary at 9:00 am on Sunday\, December 17th. This will precede the performance (happening in lieu of the typical worship service) at 10:30 am.   Sign up by connecting with Betsy Ries\, Sunday School Superintendent\, at betsyjack@att.net. \nConcordia Church on Whipple will also have a DIY Instant Christmas Performance during worship on December 17th\, at 10:00 am.

SUMMARY:Children's Christmas Sale - December 10th
DESCRIPTION:From the desk of Angela Geschrey:\nThe Children’s sale has been going on for over 20 years. The reason it was started was to help children understand the real meaning of Christmas and to help them think of being a giver and not always a receiver. We wanted to help instill in them the real meaning of Christmas and not the commercial version that it has become. \nAll gifts cost $1.00\, the gifts might be new or slightly used items that have been donated to the sale. The presents are then wrapped for the child so they are ready for the holiday event. Items are broken up into sections: mom’s or women’s gifts\, dad’s or male gifts\, a Christmas section and a children’s section for siblings and cousins. Children shop without their parents\, we ask for volunteers to help the children find the perfect gift for their family members. \nThe volunteer also helps them wrap the presents and every year the excitement I see in the children’s faces is the reward. The children feel that they are able to contribute and it was not bought by mom and dad. We ask that you give your child a list for all the members of your family that they need to purchase gifts for and the money needed to buy the gifts\, remember it is only $1.00 a gift. (If your child is very young\, 3 years and younger\, you may alternate between parents so your child can purchase a gift for each parent. Please direct them to the section that you will be purchasing in but try not to “help” them pick\, it is the thought that counts and the gift they picked out has meaning to them.) \nPlease start putting aside gently used items that you can donate to the sale\, we ask for gently used items for males\, females\, and children (no clothes please) beginning in November. We ask for volunteers to help the children on the date as well\, volunteers can help individual children shop\, wrap presents or do both activities.  \nYou can email me at Angroo98@aol.com or call me at 773-463-7748 with any questions or if you would be interested in volunteering your time.
